More than 400 runners
lined up for the 20th Henley Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society
annual fun run at Regatta Meadows on Monday. The 5.2 mile run took them on a course along Remenham Lane, past the
Flower Pot pub and back along the riverbank. |
|
Not surprisingly, the winner was Henley’s ace runner Ben Reynolds, who
has won the town’s half marathon for the last four years, and
completed this year’s London Marathon in 2 hours 26 minutes. His time
on Sunday was 26 minutes and 50 seconds, almost three minutes ahead of
second placed Mike Bradfield. |
|
Helen Preedy won the ladies’ race with Sandra Reynolds, no relation to
Ben, in second place. The winners of the junior race were Scott Rankin
and Jessica Moran. All runners picked up a medal at the finishing
line. And there was a special prize for Tim Caunter, who has taken part
in every race since the event’s inception. |
|
Geoff Clarkson, HAOD’s fundraising and event coordinator said he was
pleased with the outcome. “We were lucky with the weather which is
always a bonus, and once again it was nice to see so many runners from
other parts of the country. There were a number from London and one from
Sutton Coldfield.“So many keep coming back, partly because it is such
an attractive course and also as it is so well organised.” |
|
The run raised around
£1,400 which will go towards the society’s running costs. (from
